GURNEE, IL - September 21, 2009 - On September 19, 2009, at 10:56 PM the Gurnee Police Department received a 9-1-1 call fro m a resident in the 600 block of Dunham Road in the Heather Ridge subdivision. The 24 year old caller said he saw a male subject standing near his car when he went outside his residence. He said the subject ran from the area eastbound on the path there. The victim checked his unlocked car and found that his GPS and Bluetooth hands free device were missing from his car. Our K-9 officer and police service dog started a track and located a wallet on the ground that was later identified as belonging to the burglary victim. It was found on Rt. 21 north of I-94. Other items were found lying along the path of the track. In the meantime, another officer checking the area located a subject matching the description given by the victim of the burglary. He was located in the Woodlake Apartments area. That subject was stopped by two officers. During the interview with the subject, the officers located several items on the person of the subject, including the GPS and Bluetooth device from the burglary that was reported earlier. The K-9 tracked the suspect all the way to the point where the two officers had the suspect stopped. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Gurnee Police Facility. Charged was Benjamin A Alderin, 22, address of 3966 Dorchester Ave, Gurnee. Alderin was charged with Burglary, a Class 2 Felony and Possession of Stolen Property, a Class 3 Felony. Alderin appeared in Bond Court in Waukegan on Sunday morning. He was released on a $30,000 recognizance bond.
