Des Plaines River Update--2:00 pm--March 22, 2007

As of 12:30 pm on Wednesday, March 22, 2007 the Des Plaines River as measured at Route 120 had reached a level of 6.96 feet according to reporting information provided by the National Weather Service. The rains during the day on March 21, 2007 caused the river to rise to 7.06 feet around midnight, after which the levels had started to drop. The Des Plaines spills over its banks at approximately 7.0 feet and problems with roadway access along Emerald Avenue and Kilbourne Road occur at approximately 8.5 feet. Upstream from Gurnee in Russell, the river measured 6.73 feet at 11:45 am and is predicted to crest at 7.3 feet on March 25th.

The National Weather Service is predicting a 30% chance of thunderstorms starting tonight thru Monday, March 26th.
