Gurnee, IL – November 18, 2009 - At 2:47 PM this afternoon, Gurnee Police and Fire units responded to a serious injury accident on Washington Street just east of the intersection with Cemetery Road. A 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt sedan that was eastbound on Washington skidded into the westbound traffic lane and was struck by a westbound 1999 Ford F-250 pick-up truck.

The pick-up truck was driven by Bryon Seng, 22, of unincorporated Libertyville. Seng and a 21 year old passenger said the silver sedan slid sideways into their traffic lane and they swerved to avoid the car but hit the right side of the car. The Chevrolet sedan was driven by a 90 year old Gurnee woman and her 93 year old husband was in the front passenger seat. The 93 year old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville by Gurnee Fire Department Paramedics. She was believed to have significant injuries also. The names of the occupants of the Chevrolet are not being released yet pending notification of relatives.

The accident remains under investigation. No citations have been issued to either driver.
