Road & Project Construction Updates

Periodically, the Village e-mails updates regarding area road projects to individuals who have subscribed to the Village-Announce Construction & Development Updates list serve. This electronic news delivery system includes information on road and street right-of-way construction projects taking place in the community during the construction season. The listserv also includes information on potential new development within the community that will not require a public hearing based upon the proposed use and current property zoning. In an effort to keep residents well-informed, these e-mail announcements will also be posted to this web page.

If you are interested in subscribing to the list serve or the general Village Announcements list serve, visit the Village List Server page.

2010 Road & Project Construction Updates

The start of construction season is upon us and to keep the public informed the Village will send out weekly construction notices regarding public projects. Click the links below to read updates for that week.

March 5, 2010

While driving home earlier this week I realized I was wearing sunglasses and didn't need headlights as I left the Village Hall. As winter draws to a close my favorite season (construction season) is rapidly approaching and we expect to see less activity this year compared to last. Here is a quick rundown of what we expect to see this season…

There are several large projects from last year that will wrap up this spring as follows:

The Tollway completed the pavement widening of the Tri-State Tollway in 2009 and restoration of the landscaping and restriping of the pavement are expected to occur this year.

  • The Lake County Division of Transportation is expected to landscape the Washington Street median between Greenleaf Street and IL Route 21.
  • IDOT is planning to paint the bridge girders and finish landscaping and sidewalk restoration at IL Route 132 and US Highway 41.

The biggest new roadway project expected to occur in 2010 is Washington Street from IL Route 21 to Hunt Club Road. This section will be completely rebuilt and widened to 4 lanes.

Cemetery Road north of Washington Street is being rebuilt with curb and gutter and new pavement.

A section of Tri-State Parkway north of Cemetery Road will be resurfaced as part of the Cemetery Road project.

The Village is planning on resurfacing a section of Dada Drive west of Hunt Club Road  and Delany Road north of Old Grand Avenue as part of the annual pavement preservation program.

O'Plaine Road from Washington Street to Grand Avenue will be resurfaced by the Lake County Division of Transportation once the school year ends.

The Village has a couple of small sewer and detention projects planned and there are several private developments in the works that may begin this year as well. Additional information will be forthcoming on this mailing list.

Please feel free to contact the Village of Gurnee Engineering Division at 847.599.7550 should you have any questions or concerns regarding these or any other heavy construction projects.

Best regards,
Scott Drabicki
