Community Development Department

The Department of Community Development is concerned with physical planning, infrastructure construction and the safety of structures and grounds in the Village. The Community Development Department has three divisions. The Planning & Zoning Division is primarily responsible for guiding the physical growth and development of the Village. The Property Maintenance Division is concerned with the maintenance of private property in the Village, including enforcement of the Sign Ordinance, Nuisance Ordinance, and Property Maintenance Codes. The construction and management of public infrastructure such as streets, drainage facilities, water lines and sewer lines is conducted by the Engineering Division. The Building Safety Division oversees building construction, code enforcement, and the inspections of specialized facilities such as elevators. While the Community Development Department deals with the physical aspects of the community, we work extensively with elected and appointed officials, property owners, contractors, and citizens to provide a high level of customer service.

Effective June 1, 2005, the Village of Gurnee has begun operating under five new building codes. Please visit the Building Safety Division's Codes and Ordinances page to view the new codes.

Permit Requirements for installation of Pools, Spas, and Hot Tubs have been updated. Please check out the updated guidelines before submitting your permit application.
