Overview - Gurnee Fire Department
The fire department currently protects approximately 60,000 people in a 30 square mile area, with a daytime population in excess of 150,000. Areas protected by the fire department are divided between the Village and Fire Protection District, as well as the City of Park City, Illinois.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GURNEE, IL – The Gurnee Fire Department has been presented with a Life Safety Achievement Award for the year 2010 by the Residential Fire Safety Institute (RFSI) in partnership with the Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company. The award was announced by Alan Shuman, President of the National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM), RFSI’s parent organization.

Yesterday, several reports have been made to the Village regarding a smoke smell and haze in the area. The National Weather Service attributed this to a wildfire in the Boundary Waters Canoe area in Minnesota. Conditions appear to be have improved going into today. Should the outlook change again, the Village will notify residents through the Village website, Twitter and the Announcements E-mail Listserv.
