2019 Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Internship

The Village of Gurnee Information Systems Division seeks candidates for a summer Geographic Information Systems internship.  Duration of position is approximately mid-May to mid-August, depending on school schedule, with possible additional work opportunities over school breaks. 

Employees in this position perform routine and entry level technical geographic information systems work; creating and editing features in a SQL-Server based geodatabase; scanning and linking documents to map features; updating Javascript-based ArcGIS Server applications.  Projects will involve computer data entry; reading and interpreting various maps, plats, legal documents and engineering plans.  Some field work required. 

Applicants must have an understanding of the principles behind GIS, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), and relational databases.  Experience with ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online, and familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite required.  Experience with Javascript and programming concepts along with coursework in Geography, GIS or Computer Science is preferred.

Must have a valid driver’s license, safe driving record, and be at least 18 years of age. 

Starting hourly rate of pay is $13.00+ / hour depending on experience.    Work schedule is generally 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Offer of employment is contingent on a passing a background investigation and drug screen.
