Records Assistant

Summary:

The Gurnee Police Department is seeking a service-oriented individual to join its team as a Records Assistant.

Requirements:

This is a full time position responsible for maintaining records and files, entering computer data, and completing related reports.  Work tasks also include providing general clerical support within the Police Department. 

Minimum qualifications and requirements include US citizen / legal work authorization; HS Diploma / GED; at least one (1) year comparable office / administrative support / records management experience; ability to accurately type at least 30 word per minute [as adjusted for errors]. 

Other desirable or strongly preferred qualifications include police records management experience; bilingual skills; and/or current LEADS certification.

Other qualifications / candidate characteristics include: ability to work under pressure and effectively multi-task in a high activity work environment; excellent customer service skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work with confidential material and apply department standards for security and privacy; effective time management skills; problem solving abilities; and ability to exercise good judgment.

Pay Range:

Starting rate of pay is $22.45 / hour; experienced candidates may be eligible for an accelerated wage rate based on experience.   Full benefits including health, dental, vision, Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund.

Duties:

Examples of primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

Enters and updates arrest records, incidents, accident reports, warrants, traffic tickets, parking tickets, compliance tickets, and other information through data entry tasks.

Receives, screens, and responds to phone callers.

Responds to visitors to Police facility.

Distributes incoming department mail to appropriate recipient.

Assists the public and other agencies by searching files, reports, and other records; prepares records for transmittal to court.

Processes taxi-cab applications, solicitor requests, and public background checks.

Responds to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.

Performs other related tasks or other duties as assigned.
