Chief's Message

Fire Chief Fred FriedlOn behalf of our Mayor, Village Board, Board of Trustees of the Warren Waukegan Fire Protection District and the men and women of the Gurnee Fire Department, I would like to thank you for taking the time to visit our website.  The primary mission of the Gurnee Fire Department is to provide a variety of services designed to protect the lives and property of our citizens and visitors from the adverse effects of fires, sudden medical emergencies or the exposure to dangerous conditions caused by man or nature.

As a team, all members of our organization provided their input in one capacity or another to reflect on the significant accomplishments of this organization. I acknowledge all of our members who continue to serve the Gurnee and Warren-Waukegan Fire Protection District community with continued honor, pride, and professionalism.

During this past year, our department responded to 6,220 total calls for service  While not responding to emergency requests, our personnel maintained a busy schedule committed to sustaining our core services and vital programs demonstrated through public education and proactive community outreach.  Our Fire Prevention Bureau was recognized by the National Association of State Fire Marshals with the receipt of the 2014 Life Safety Achievement Award highlighting the outstanding fire safety statistics and fire prevention / education programs that are provided on a daily basis.  And during 2015, Gurnee was recognized as the 70th StormReady Community in Illinois.

Before leaving our website, take some time to learn about the many services and programs we provide. Our biggest responsibility is to educate our residents about fire and life safety. Through education and enforcement, we can prevent the tragic effects of fires and sudden emergency medical emergencies. Please do not hesitate to request our assistance in providing educational opportunities for your family or community group.

Once again I would like to give credit to all of our trained professionals; for without each of their individual contributions throughout the year we would not be as successful as we are today.   I extend my gratitude to our Mayor, Trustees of the Village of Gurnee, Trustees of the Warren-Waukegan Fire Protection District, the Village Administrator and the citizens we serve each day.  Thank you for your support!

Yours in Safety and Protection,

Fred N. Friedl III, CFO
