Public Notice – July 17, 2017, A.M. Update

Des Plaines Riverine Flooding
Some sources are predicting an additional 2.5” of rainfall this week. It is unclear what impact this rainfall could have on the flooding situation. Village staff are monitoring the forecast closely and daily updates will be provided.

As of 7:30am on July 17, 2017 the Des Plaines River was at level of 11.6 feet and falling according to reporting information provided by the National Weather Service (NWS). The Des Plaines River crested at 12.09 feet on July 16, 2017 00:45 hours. If the gage is accurate, this level is the highest in recorded history for the IL Route 120 USGS gage in use since 1976.

Areas inundated with flood waters have been secured by law enforcement and no public access will be permitted. The community and first responders are standing by to address needs as they arise in the flood zone. Sandbags are available at the Warren Township High School parking lot at O’Plaine Road and McClure Avenue. Access to the sandbagging area is O’Plaine Road from Washington Street.

Non-riverine Flooding:
The regional “non-riverine” flooding situation is now in the cleanup phase and all local drainage system should be operating normally. Residents with flood damages in their homes are encouraged to clean out damaged material as quickly as possible and sanitize the living space. Special waste pickup operations are underway in accordance with details provided on our website.
