GURNEE, IL - August 18, 2009 - The Gurnee Breakfast Exchange Club will be sponsoring and holding a 9/11 Community Remembrance Ceremony on Sunday, September 6th from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. at Viking Park. The event, free and open to the public, will recognize the many instances of heroism, bravery, and generosity which have reflected back so strongly on all Americans since September 11th, 2001.
The ceremony will include presentation of the Breakfast Exchange’s 2008 Fire Employee of the Year, Law Enforcement Officer of the Year and Civilian Police Employee of the Year awards, the So Proudly We Hail Award and a special honoring of the Lake County fallen.
Gurnee Mayor Kristina M. Kovarik will be the guest speaker at the event with members from the Gurnee Police and Fire Honor Guard, Gurnee Public Works Department, Gurnee Park District, Girl Scouts of America, Boy Scouts of America, 2009 Gurnee Queens and various elected and local leaders in attendance.
Performing will be the Woodland School District 50 Jazz Band, Gurnee District 56 Spaulding School 2nd Grade Singers, the United States Navy Great Lakes 50 State Flag unit, and the Zion Fire Department Bagpipers.
The Gurnee Breakfast Exchange Club is a chapter of national service organization Exchange, an organization of group of men and women working together to make communities better places to live through programs of service in Americanism, Community Service, Youth Activities and its national project, the Prevention of Child Abuse.
