GURNEE, IL - July 10, 2009 - Beginning June 19th and running through July 6th, the Gurnee Police Department conducted special enforcement roving patrols throughout the village. Funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, these enforcement actions were conducted with the objective of removing drunk and drugged drivers from the roadways.

Officers also focused on open transportation of alcohol, speeding, and safety restraint device usage.

The results of these special enforcement operations are as follows:

• * Total number of citations issued: 264
• * Number of DUI arrests: 5
• * Open transportation of alcohol arrests: 3
• * Number of safety restraint violations: 73
• * Number of child restraint violations: 4
