Four Burglary Suspects Arrested

GURNEE, IL - June 30, 2009 - Four male suspects were arrested early Monday morning in the 5900 block of Delaware Avenue after a resident in the area called police to report suspicious subjects around her home. The four suspects, three adults and one juvenile, were charged late today. They are suspected in at least 20 burglaries to motor vehicles in the Pembrook and Westgate subdivisions on the Village’s near west side.

At 3:58 AM on June 29, Gurnee Police received a 911 call regarding the suspicious subjects in the 5900 block of Delaware Avenue. Patrol units responded to the area and located four male subjects entering their parked car in the area. When officers made contact with the subjects they observed a large amount of electronic items inside the car. Further investigation at the scene lead to the discovery of several cell phones on the person of the suspects. A number of vehicles were located that had been entered in the same vicinity.

Most of the proceeds from the burglaries have been recovered. Items recovered included iPODs, GPS units, cell phones and phone chargers, tools and cash. The total value of the goods recovered is not known at this time.

The four suspects were transported back to the Gurnee Police Department where they were interviewed by investigators. Upon conclusion of the interviews, the case was reviewed by the Lake County State’s Attorney Felony Review Division. Each suspect is charged with 2 counts of Burglary, a Class 2 Felony. The 15 year old juvenile from Waukegan was released to his mother and will be referred to Lake County Juvenile Court.

Charged with Burglary are:

  • Marcus Keys, 17, 801 New York St., Waukegan, remanded to the Lake County Jail on a $25,000 bond
  • Ellis Irby, 30, 4580 Forest Avenue, Waukegan, remanded to the County Jail on a $100,000 bond
  • Myles Irby, 19, also of 4580 Forest Ave, Waukegan, remanded to the County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
Additional charges are pending against each suspect. The case remains under investigation while detectives follow up with the numerous victims and recovered property.
