GURNEE - October 21, 2008 -
On October 20, 2008, Thomas Rigwood was unanimously
appointed to the position of Director of Public Works by the Gurnee
Village Board. Mr. Rigwood will begin his career with the Village on
Monday, November 3, 2008.
Mr. Rigwood has over twenty-four years of experience in the public
works field, including 21 years with the Lake County Division of
Transportation with a career spanning from entry level Highway
Maintenance Worker with movement up through the ranks to become the
Manager of Highway Operations for the last 8 years of his career with
the County. Most recently Mr. Rigwood’s experience has been with the
City of Crystal Lake, IL serving in the capacity of Public Works Street
His professional affiliations include membership in the American Public
Works Association and American Traffic Safety Services Association. Mr.
Rigwood has participated in several training and certification programs
offered through both associations, including snow and ice control
training and certification as a Work Site Traffic Control Supervisor.
Most recently he completed the Training for Public Service Officials
training program through the Illinois Public Service Institute. This is
a three year training program which provides instruction expressly
designed for city and county public service supervisors, managers, and
directors focusing on training in public service, personal growth, and
professional development. Throughout his career, Mr. Rigwood has
continued to broaden his professional knowledge base through by
participating in additional training and educational opportunities.
The Village is pleased to welcome Mr. Rigwood as the newest member of
the Village’s top management team. His experience, qualifications,
and familiarity with municipal public works operations will enable the
Department to continue to provide effective and efficient public
services to the Village and all of its residents.
