Occupant Protection Enforcement Zones Established

GURNEE - November 6, 2008 - Beginning November 14th and running through November 30th, the Gurnee Police Department will be conducting occupant protection enforcement zones throughout the Village. Funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, these zones are being established in order to achieve the following goals:

1.         To increase enforcement of occupant restraint laws.
2.         To achieve a higher compliance rate in the use of safety belts, child safety seats and booster seats.

Occupant protection enforcement zones will be established at the following locations:

1- Northwestern and Grandville
2- Route 132 and Belle Plaine Ave.
3- Almond Rd and Dada Dr.
4- Cemetary Rd. and Washington St.
5- Cresent Ave. and Belle Plaine Ave.
6- First St. and Blackstone Ave.
7- Lawson Blvd. and Beechwood Ave.
8- St. Paul Ave. and Grove Ave.

When worn correctly, seat belts have proven to reduce the risk of fatal injury to front-seat passenger car occupants by 45 percent – and by 60 percent  in pickup trucks, SUVs and minivans. Yet nearly one in five Americans (19 percent nationally) still fail to regularly wear their seat belts when driving or riding in a motor vehicle. We would like to remind everyone to buckle up. “Every trip. Every time.”
