All-Terrain Vehicle Acquisition

GURNEE - November 21, 2008 - In May, 2008 the Gurnee Police Department applied for and received a grant to purchase an all-terrain vehicle to utilize as a specialized patrol unit. The grant was facilitated by State Representative Sandy Cole’s office.

The vehicle was purchased through a bid process in September from Nielsen Enterprises in Lake Villa, IL. Since then, the vehicle has been being equipped and readied for deployment in the field. This vehicle will be used to patrol areas within the village not accessible by traditional police vehicles. It will also be used for neighborhood traffic enforcement, event patrol, and search and rescue missions. The Gurnee Police Department will make the vehicle and an operator available to other law enforcement agencies that may have a need for it.

Three Gurnee police officers have been trained, certified, and equipped to operate the machine. Other officers will also be trained so that it may be used as much as practical.

On Monday, 11/24/08 at 1:30 PM, Representative Cole, Mayor Kovarik, Chief Jones, and other dignitaries will be present for the official presentation of the vehicle. The event will take place at the Gurnee Police Department, 100 N. O’Plaine Rd. We are thankful for the assistance we received from Representative Sandy Cole in obtaining this grant funding to equip our agency with this vehicle.

Members of the press are invited to attend this brief yet important event.
