Armed Robbery

GURNEE, IL - March 5, 2009 - At 7:50 PM on March 4, 2009 Gurnee Police officers responded to a report of an armed robbery that just occurred at the Family Dollar store located at 3521 W Grand Ave. There were two employees and one customer inside the store at the time of the robbery. No one was injured in the incident.

The witnesses stated that an African-American male subject wearing a black ski mask walked into the store and displayed a black semi-automatic handgun. The suspect told the employees to place the money from the store into a black backpack that he had brought in with him. The employees complied with the demand and placed an undisclosed amount of cash into the backpack. The suspect then said someone was outside watching and that they should lie on the floor for five minutes. The suspect then walked out the front doors and fled southbound through the parking lot. One of the employees saw him running toward a white colored conversion van but did not see if he entered the van or not.

Responding officers and the K-9 unit searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

The suspect was described as a male African-American, 5'9"-6'0 tall, wearing a black ski mask, dark hooded jacket with a gold zipper, white and black gloves, a black backpack, and dark athletic shoes with a light colored emblem on the sides.
