Gurnee Receives Award for Excellence in Financial Reporting

GURNEE, IL - March 23, 2009 - The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial
Reporting has been awarded to the Village of Gurnee by the Government
Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for
its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) for the fiscal year
ending April 30, 2008. This is the fourteenth year in a row that the
Village of Gurnee has received such a distinction. The Certificate of
Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of
governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment
represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its
management. An Award was given to the individual designated by the
government as primarily responsible for preparing the award-winning
CAFR. Tina M. Smigielski, Village of Gurnee Finance Director was
responsible for preparing the CAFR.

“Continuing to receive the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence
in Financial Reporting award demonstrates the Village’s commitment to
making financial data accessible to our residents and other interested
stakeholders. We are pleased to receive this award again, and very
proud of the achievement that it represents to the community,”
acknowledged the Village’s Finance Director, Tina Smigielski.

The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high
standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive "spirit
of full disclosure" to clearly communicate the Village’s financial
story and motivate people to read the CAFR. The GFOA is a nonprofit
professional association serving approximately 16,000 government finance
professionals with offices in Chicago, Illinois, and Washington, D.C.
