"Alcohol Awareness Month" Kick-off Enforcement Campaign Results

GURNEE, IL - April 17, 2009 - Beginning April 1st and running through April 12th, the Gurnee Police Department conducted special enforcement throughout the village, with an emphasis on
impaired driving. This campaign was designed to coincide with the beginning of April
which has been designated “Alcohol Awareness Month.”

Funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation and the National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration, these enforcement actions are being conducted
in order to remove drunk and drugged drivers from the roadways.

Officers also focused on open transportation of alcohol, speeding, and safety restraint
device usage.

The results of these special enforcement operations are as follows:

Total number of hours worked: 53.5
Number of Officers Involved: 9
Number of DUI arrests: 8
Number of safety restraint violations: 7
Number of speeding violations: 17
Total Number of Citations Written: 60
Number of vehicles stopped: 46
Numbers of miles driven by officers: 540
