GURNEE, IL - May 5, 2009 - At 10:42 AM this
morning, Gurnee Police received a 911 call of a robbery that had just occurred at the Gurnee Discount Furniture
Store, located at 3535 W. Grand Ave.
At approximately 10:39 AM, the offender entered the store through the front entrance, walked around the counter
and surprised the store manager. The manager was the only person inside the store at the time. The offender
struck the manager several times in the face and head. The offender then removed the manager’s wallet and
left the store through the front doors. The suspect fled south on foot. There were some witnesses out in the
parking lot that saw the suspect leave the store and run south through the parking lot. The offender got away
with the wallet and an undisclosed amount of cash. No weapons were displayed or implied.
The suspect is described as a male African-American, approximately 5’11” to
6’00”, wearing a gray or white mask and a light colored hoodie and black gloves. The victim did
receive some minor injuries in the attack and was transported for treatment to Victory East Hospital in Waukegan
by Gurnee Fire Department paramedics
At 10:53 AM the Gurnee Police Department received a call of a suspicious Penske Rental truck parked in the
parking lot at the Assisi Homes of Gurnee located at 3495 W Grand Ave, just to the east of Gurnee Discount
Furniture. Witnesses reported seeing a male black subject matching the description of the suspect, enter the
truck and drive away, heading east on Grand Ave.
An area broadcast was issued on the truck. Zion Police located the truck and stopped the vehicle for
investigation. A person of interest is currently being questioned by Gurnee detectives. No charges have been
filed at this time. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
