Gurnee Hosts Landscape Beautification Contest to Promote Community Beautification

GURNEE, IL - May 18, 2009 - The Village of Gurnee invites all residents, community groups, and local businesses to participate in its annual Gurnee in Bloom Beautification Contest.  This contest is part of the Village's community beautification program and is the Village's way of encouraging residents and businesses in the community to landscape and beautify homes, businesses, and neighborhoods during the summer season.

The contest will be judged in three separate categories, which include:

  • Commercial/Retail - Landscaping projects at commercial/retail facilities such as shopping malls, restaurants, retail businesses, office parks, etc.
  • Neighborhood - Landscaping projects along a neighborhood street consisting of at least four residential properties participating in a unified theme or projects utilizing the common areas within a neighborhood or subdivision.
  • Residential - Landscaping/beautification projects at individual residences.

An impartial panel will judge all entries.  Judging will take place on July 18 and 19, 2009. Entries will be evaluated based upon creativity, design, composition, tastefulness, environmental sensitivity, and overall quality. This landscape project must be visible from the street. Entry winners will be recognized by the Mayor and Village Board at the July 20, 2009 Village Board meeting, and a sign recognizing award winners will be displayed at the location of each winning entry.

Gurnee residents, businesses, neighborhoods, or community organizations who are interested in participating in the Village of Gurnee's Third Annual Gurnee in Bloom Beautification Contest can pick up an application at the Gurnee Village Hall, 325 N. O'Plaine Road. Applications will also be available online on the Village's website at www.gurnee.il.us. All entry applications must be turned into the Gurnee Village Hall by July 2, 2009. Individuals who have any questions regarding the beautification contest should contact the Gurnee Village Hall at (847) 599-7500 or check out the Village's website.
