Kids Can't Buy'em Here Program

GURNEE, IL - June 4, 2009 - Gurnee, IL - The Gurnee Police Department recently conducted a tobacco ordinance compliance check of local retail establishments for sales of tobacco products to minors. Minors under the age of 18 are prohibited from purchasing tobacco products.

On May 16, 2009, 27 business establishments were checked, resulting in 2 violations. Two citations were issued for illegal sale of a tobacco product to a minor. Cited was Lester Greer Jr., 62, from Gurnee, while working at the Speedway, 3688 Grand Avenue, Gurnee. Also cited was Thomas E. Brill, 42, of Round Lake Beach, while working at Walgreens, 4830 Grand Ave. Gurnee. Both subjects were given a June 25, 2009 court date at the Lake County Branch Court facility in Park City, IL.

The Gurnee Police Department will continue to conduct periodic compliance checks of retailers to curtail tobacco product sales to minors.
