GURNEE, IL - June 10, 2009 -
The Village of Gurnee Plan Commission and Zoning Board of
Appeals are hosting a joint workshop on June 24th at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Village Hall, located
at 325 N. O’Plaine Rd, to discuss potential regulations relating the outdoor parking and storage of
recreational vehicles (RV’s) on residentially-zoned lots. Recreational Vehicles include: campers, boats,
toy haulers, haul trailers, jet skis, snowmobiles, and other similar vehicles and equipment that are used for
recreational purposes. The workshop is a
result of resident concerns that these vehicles, and their outdoor storage, may negatively impact property values
or endanger public health, safety, and welfare. Residents are strongly encouraged to attend this
The following regulations currently apply to the outside parking and/or storage of recreational
vehicles on residential properties in Gurnee:
- RVs must be parked or stored on a hard surface pad;
- The wheels or other transportation devices cannot be removed
from these vehicles; and
- RVs cannot be used for living purposes, except for guests who
are visiting for not more than 30 days during a calendar year.
In addition to the public workshop, the Village will be conducting a survey to assess the opinions
and experiences of Gurnee residents related to the outside parking and storage of RVs. This survey will provide
additional insight as to level of regulation residents’ desire. The survey will be available on-line
through the Village's website (www.gurnee.il.us) starting in mid-July.
Details regarding the survey will be made available in a future press release.
