Gurnee Police Conducting Special Enforcement Period

GURNEE, IL - June 18, 2009 - Beginning June 18th and running through July 6th, the Gurnee Police Department will be conducting special enforcement throughout the Village.

Funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, these enforcement actions are being conducted in order to remove drunk and drugged drivers from the roadways, increase safety belt and child restraint device use, and curb speeding motorists.

As summer is upon us, with all the activities and celebrations that come with it, traffic volumes in the Village are bound to spike upward. As part of the Gurnee Police Department's overall traffic safety initiatives, these special enforcement activities are a vital component to help make our roadways safer for all who enjoy living in and visiting our community.

Officers assigned to these details will have zero tolerance for traffic violations, particularly impaired driving, lack of safety belt or child seat use, and speeding.

A report of enforcement activity will be released at the conclusion of the campaign.
