Gurnee Police Identify Sexual Assault Suspect

GURNEE, IL ‑ June 28, 2010 - The Gurnee Police Department has positively identified the suspect in the June 5th abduction and sexual assault of a 19 year old female that began in parking lot F at Gurnee Mills Mall.

Detectives have obtained an arrest warrant for Richard R. Gallatin, 37, with a last known address of 5402 75th St. in Pleasant Prairie, WI. The arrest warrant charges Gallatin with four counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault, one count of Aggravated Kidnapping and one count of Armed Robbery. All charges are Class X Felonies. Bond has been set at one million dollars.

Gallatin is known to frequent the Kenosha, Wisconsin area. He also has a history in Cook County IL and contacts in northwest Indiana and Arizona. The Gurnee Police Department is working with the U.S. Marshals Service in an attempt to locate Gallatin and take him into custody. Gallatin should be considered armed and dangerous. If seen, do not approach him. Call your local law enforcement agency. A cash reward is available for any credible information leading to the capture of Richard R. Gallatin.

The abduction and sexual assault began on Saturday, 06/05/10 at 9:20 PM and lasted until Sunday, 06/06/10 at about 1:20 AM. The Victim reported she was abducted from parking lot "F" at Gurnee Mills; Rt. 132 and I-94. She was forcibly taken to an ATM at Bank of America Grayslake, IL to withdrawal $40.00. The Victim was then told to drive to a remote location in Kane Co, IL. Once in that area, she was told to park in a church lot, where the sexual assault took place. The Victim was then forced to drive to a 7-Eleven in Forest Park, IL where the suspect got out of the victim’s vehicle and she drove back to Lake County. Upon returning to Lake County she reported the crime to police.

Attached are photos of Gallatin. One is from a security camera taken on June 6. The two photos with the shaved head were taken in 2009. The photo showing Gallatin with hair was taken in 2003. It is believed Gallatin has more hair growth now than in the security camera photo.
