The incident began as a burglary to motor vehicle in the 900 block of Campbell Drive when a 60 year old male resident heard a loud noise outside. He opened his front door to investigate the noise and saw a male subject running past. The resident chased the suspicious subject and the subject stopped at the edge of a nearby pond. The resident shoved the suspect into the pond but also fell into the pond. He stood up and heard a loud pop and felt something hit him in the back of the head. The suspect fled the area. The victim flagged down a Heather Ridge Security officer patrolling the area. The victim was treated at the scene by Gurnee Fire Paramedics and then transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. The hospital determined he received a gunshot wound. He is being treated for injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.
The suspect is described as a younger male, 18 to 23 years of age, 5’ 10" tall with a thin build. He was last seen wearing black pants and a black hooded sweat shirt.
