Police Seek Assistance in Attempted Murder Case

[Gurnee, IL] - The Gurnee Police Department and the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force are investigating an attempted murder/aggravated battery with a firearm that took place in the Heather Ridge subdivision; located near the intersection of Route 120 and Route 21 in Gurnee, IL. The shooting took place on August 17, 2010 at 3:50 AM. It began as an auto burglary complaint that rapidly escalated into the shooting of a local resident.

The suspect is described as a younger male, 18 to 23 years of age, 5’ 10" tall with a thin build. He was last seen wearing black pants and a black hooded sweat shirt. The suspect became soaked with water as a result of falling into a pond during the incident.

A .22 caliber handgun, believed to be the gun used in the crime, was recovered from the pond later on August 17 by divers from the Gurnee Fire Department. The gun was located in the pond by members of the Lake & McHenry County Specialized Response Team/Water Rescue and Recovery made up of members of the Buffalo Grove, Gurnee and Wauconda Fire Deparments. The team used a sector scan sonar device to locate the gun on the bottom of the pond.

Below are photos of the actual weapon believed to have been used in this crime. We are seeking information from the public about the identity of the current or previous owner of this weapon.
