The mother reported that her daughter had just told her she had met an older boy on My Space and that they had been dating and having sex. The two started meeting in April. At the time her daughter was 13 years old. The boy was saying he was 17 years old. In May they began having a sexual relationship. The two had meetings in various parking lot locations around Gurnee such as Viking Park, Warren-Newport Library, Hunt Club Park and the Kohl’s parking lot. They met on at least eight separate occasions. The male eventually admitted to the girl that he was actually 22 years old.

 
 

Detectives determined the actual identity of the suspect and located him at his apartment in the 1700 block of Berwick Street in Waukegan on Monday evening around 7:15 PM. With the assistance of the Waukegan Police Department, Carlos Daniel Cartagena, 22, was arrested and charged with 8 counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse, which are Class 2 Felonies. He was held overnight at the Gurnee Police Department and appeared in bond court earlier today Waukegan. Cartagena was remanded to the Lake County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
