Police Department Urges Residents to Be Cautious of Ruse Burglary

The Gurnee Police Department urges residents to be cautious of a ruse burglary targeting elderly residents.  While no incidents have been reported in Gurnee, residents should be aware of this increase in activity.

Most recently in the Lake County area, these crimes have been perpetrated by people posing as construction workers or fence builders.  There are usually 2 offenders but sometimes more.  The offenders dress like construction workers but have no badges or other identification.  Generally, they will claim they are building a fence or other structure on or near the homeowner's property line.  While one worker shows the resident where the alleged work will occur, the other will enter the home and take various items including cash and jewelry, typically from the master or main bedroom.

Anyone who has experienced this, wishes to report suspicious activity or has questions should contact either the Gurnee Police Department at (847) 599-7000 or Lake County Crime Stoppers at (847) 662-2222.
