Nov 30, 2010

The Gurnee Police Department conducts periodic spot checks of businesses within the village that offer retail sales of alcoholic beverages. On November 23, 2010, businesses that hold liquor licenses in Gurnee were checked for underage alcohol sales. There were four violations observed.

Gurnee detectives accompanied three underage volunteers who entered the establishments and attempted to purchase an alcohol product or an alcoholic beverage. Two of the volunteers were 18 years old and one was a 19 year old. Two were male and one was female. A total of 41 businesses were checked. Four of the businesses served an alcoholic beverage to the minor agent. All violators were given citations. Employees of the following businesses were cited for unlawful sale of alcohol to a minor: Dino’s Cardinal Liquors, Ichiban Steak House, Olive Garden Restaurant and Pizzeria Uno. The employees at Ichiban Steak House and The Olive Garden were also cited for failure to request proof of age. Court dates for all citations issued were set for December.

Overall there was a compliance rate of 90% for the 41 businesses that were checked. Alcohol sales compliance checks are conducted on a regular basis. The Gurnee Police Department will continue to conduct spot checks of businesses selling alcoholic beverages to insure that area youth do not have easy access to alcohol products.
