Gurnee Police Conduct Holiday Mobilization Enforcement Period

Gurnee, IL – Beginning December 7th and running through January 2nd 2011, the Gurnee Police Department conducted additional traffic enforcement activities throughout the village.


Funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, these additional enforcement actions were conducted in order to remove drunk and drugged drivers from the roadways, increase safety restraint device use, and slow speeding motorists. As part of our overall traffic safety initiatives, these special enforcement activities are a vital component to help make our roadways safer for all who enjoy living in and visiting our community.


Dedicated saturation patrols were committed to occupant protection and additional extra patrols were deployed village-wide to focus on drunk driving, drugged driving, and speeding. These enforcement efforts were conducted between the hours of 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM.


The results of these STEP Grant operations are as follows:

  • Numbers of details conducted: 18
  • Number of safety restraint violations: 18
  • Number of drug/alcohol-related arrests: 4
  • Number of vehicles stopped: 65
  • Total number of citations written: 94
