1. Village to Modify Utility Billing Rates and Structure

A water main break on Old Grand AvenueBeginning on October 1st, the Village will restructure water and sewer billing rates and frequency.  Under this system, residents and businesses will pay a base fee for water and sewer service per bill and then pay for any usage instead of the Village charging a minimum usage bill.  Base fees will depend on the water meter size of the respective customer.  The modified combined water and sewer rates for all users will be $4.97 per 1,000 gallons, an 8% increase.

In addition, the Village will move from a quarterly billing cycle to a bimonthly billing cycle.  This means residents and businesses will be billed six times a year instead of four.  The main advantages of this move will be faster detection of problems for residents and businesses.

You can learn more about these upcoming changes on the Village's website.  For any questions, contact Village Hall at (847) 599-7500.

2. Women's Networking Group Meetings

The Women's Networking Group (WNG) is a business group for women to network, do business with and promote one another.  Much like Chamber of Commerce meetings, the WNG meetings features a speaker and time for networking at each meeting.  Meeetings are held in the first Wednesday of each month.  For more information and to see a schedule, visit the Chamber's website.

4. Reminder: Temporary Sign Permits

As a friendly reminder, please note that the Village requires a permit for any temporary signs a business uses.  A temporary sign includes any banner, pennant, valence or advertising display that will not be a permanent fixture.  Please note that businesses are allowed to use temporary signs up to 14 days a year.  For a copy of the application and general guidelines, visit the Village's website.  For any questions, contact the Planning Division at (847) 599-7550.

6. General Updates from the Village

From August 19th through Labor Day, the Police Department conducted special enforcement zones throughout the community to help ensure compliance with seat belt, speeding and impaired driving laws.

During August, the Village continued preparations for the utlity billing transition.  Members of the Finance, Public Information and Information Systems divisions and the Public Works Department met to discuss technology updates before the transition.  Over the next few months, the Village will keep residents and businesses advised of forthcoming changes regarding utility billing.

Also in August, the Information Systems Division, Community Development Department and Public Works Department continued work on a software upgrade to help increase efficiencies in the building permit and service order processes.  This efficiencies will result in faster complaint resolution and permit turnaround for residents and businesses.

The Planning Division, in cooperation with other divisions and departments, continues work on a proposal for an Economic Development Committee for the Village Board.

The paving work on Washington Street has been completed, and landscape restoration remains. Construction zone speed limits will be posted until all the restoration is completed.  The Village's 2011 Crack Sealing program will begin later this month and end by September 30th.
