During this period, Waste Management will complete six rounds of the Village to collect leaves. Residents are asked to rake leaves to the curb for collection. More details will be posted on this listserv in the future, but for more information on the program, please visit the Village's website or see the upcoming October issue of Keeping Posted.
2. Warren Newport Public Library to be closed through Sunday, October 16th for renovations
Warren Newport Public Library (WNPL) will be closed through Sunday, October 16th for renovations. During this time, improvements will be made to the building including installation of new energy-efficient lighting as well as carpeting, wiring and paint. Multiple staff departments and portions of the collection and shelving will also be moved during this period.
While the library facility will be closed, WNPL will continue offering some programming including the Bookmobile. For full details, visit WNPL's website.
3. Child Safety Seat Inspections to held today (Friday, September 16th) and tomorrow (Saturday, September 17th)
The Gurnee Police and Fire Departments will be conducting child safety seat inspections today (Friday, September 16th) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sams Club (6570 Grand) and tomorrow (Saturday, September 17th) from noon to 4 p.m. at Old Navy (6901 Grand).
The Gurnee Police and Fire Departments offer free child safety seat inspections in order to assist parents in protecting the lives of the Village's youngest residents. The Village currently has 22 certified child safety seat technicians who will inspect, instruct, and correct improperly installed child safety seats.
For more details and future dates, visit the Village's website.
4. Village Utility Billing Rates and Structure to Change Saturday, October 1st
Beginning on October 1st, the Village will restructure water and sewer billing rates and frequency. Under this system, residents and businesses will pay a base fee for water and sewer service per bill and then pay for any usage instead of the Village charging a minimum usage bill. Base fees will depend on the water meter size of the respective customer. For single family residences, the base fee for water and sewer service will be $10.93 per bill. The modified combined water and sewer rates for all users will be $4.97 per 1,000 gallons, an 8% increase. The average single family household, using roughly 6,000 gallons of water a month, will pay $70.57 per bill.
In addition, the Village will move from a quarterly billing cycle to a bimonthly billing cycle. This means residents and businesses will be billed six times a year instead of four. The main advantages of this move will be faster detection of problems for residents and businesses.
You can learn more about these upcoming changes on the Village's website. For any questions, contact Village Hall at (847) 599-7500.
