GURNEE, IL – Assistant Village Administrator Patrick Muetz has been appointed as the new Village Administrator of Gurnee effective January 1, 2012. The Gurnee Village Board voted to approve Mayor Kristina Kovarik’s appointment of Muetz following an executive session at its regular meeting on Monday, December 5th. Muetz will replace Village Administrator Jim Hayner, who will be retiring December 31st after working for the Village for over 34 years.
Muetz has been with the Village since April 2004 when he began employment as a Management Analyst and Public Information Officer. He was promoted to Assistant to the Village Administrator in May 2007 and then to Assistant Village Administrator in May 2011. He has a Bachelors of Science degree in public policy and administration from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and a Masters of Public Administration from Northern Illinois University (NIU). He had previously worked as an intern for the City of St. Charles, Illinois while attending NIU.
Among some of the past and current responsibilities Muetz has had include overseeing the Village’s communications, risk management program, franchise and contract agreements and portions of the Village’s annual budget process. He currently also serves on the Executive Board of the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County and Municipal Insurance Cooperative Agency, and regularly works with other local governments on projects of mutual interest.
“I am excited to appoint Patrick to the Village Administrator position. Patrick’s professional excellence will ensure the Village continues the strong services developed during Jim Hayner’s tenure,” Kovarik said regarding the appointment.
She continued, “Over the last seven years, I have worked with Patrick as he handled challenges requiring poise, understanding and tact. I am confident that with his strong work ethic, knowledge and enthusiasm, he will be more than able to successfully manage the Village’s day to day operation.”
Muetz said, “The Village of Gurnee has a strong history of offering high quality services to its residents and businesses. I’m honored to have the opportunity to lead our municipal staff as we work with the Village Board to continue this tradition.”
