Gurnee, IL – Gurnee detectives conducted a thorough investigation of the December 20 robbery near the Sears Grand store that began as an online agreement to meet and buy some iPhones. The investigation developed a suspect and culminated with a sting operation that lead to the arrest of a 23 year old male from Round Lake Beach.
During the investigation, detectives spoke with two men who believed they were almost robbed by the same suspect under similar circumstances. However, in that incident the suspect got out of the vehicle and did not get any cash. The men did not file a police report at the time.
On 12/28/2011, the suspect was contacted by a Gurnee investigator and after several message exchanges a meeting was set up for a sales transaction for electronic devices . Agents from Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group assisted Gurnee investigators with the operation. When the suspect was located at the meeting location in Round Lake Beach, he was immediately taken into custody without incident.
Arrested was Rodney Lattzis, 23, of Round Lake Beach. Lattzis was charged with one count of Aggravated Robbery, a Class 1 Felony. Lattzis was taken to a bond hearing in Waukegan on January 3, 2012 and remanded to the Lake County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
