Gurnee, IL – On Wednesday evening, 01/25/2012, officers responded to a report of a car theft and hit and run accident in the parking lot at 6120 Grand Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers found the 19 year old female victim from Round Lake Heights had been injured in the incident. She told officers that she had gotten off work in the mall and her boyfriend had picked her up and then drove her to her parked car in another part of the parking lot. She started her car and left it running to warm up while she waited in her boyfriend’s truck. After a few minutes, they saw two subjects get into her car. The victim got out of the truck and opened the passenger door to her car and told the subjects they were in her car. At that point, the male driver put the vehicle, a gray 2001 Honda Civic, into reverse and accelerated. The victim was knocked over by the car door and struck her head on the passenger side window. She also injured her shoulder on the moving car.
The suspect backed the victim’s car into another parked vehicle and then drove away. He drove the car a short distance and abandoned it in a nearby restaurant parking lot and fled on foot. The female passenger also got out and ran away on foot. She went over to a nearby fast food restaurant and was eventually picked up by a friend but the vehicle was stopped by police outside the restaurant and she was taken into custody.
The male suspect was located by Waukegan Police on Thursday night and taken into custody. He was picked up from Waukegan this morning and brought to the Gurnee Police Department for questioning. He made statements regarding the incident to detectives and was formally charged this afternoon.
Arrested near the scene on Wednesday night was Noreen Patlan, F/H, 19, from North Chicago. Patlan was charged with criminal trespass to a vehicle and obstructing justice, a class 4 felony. She was taken to a bond hearing in Waukegan this morning.
Gurnee detectives today arrested and charged Christopher Lugo, M/H, 19, of Zion. Lugo is charged with a class 3 felony theft, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm (class 3 felony) and felony criminal damage to property (class 4). He will appear in bond court tomorrow morning in Waukegan.
