South Park Area Neighborhood Watch Meeting - 11/29/12

South Park Area

The neighborhoods surrounding South Park had their most recent Neighborhood Watch meeting on 11/29/12. The meeting was facilitated by Tom Agos. Officers Bendler, Gliva, Mytnik and Hauptman, along with communications operators Jones and Harbison also attended. Below is a brief summary:

Police Activity Summary:

726 police calls for service have been generated by the area from January 1st through October 31st, 2012. Historically, the annual average is 880.

33 of the calls during the examined time period were for Illinois Uniform Crime Report (IUCR) crimes. The rest of the police calls are considered quasi-criminal, traffic, and service-related. In all of 2012, we expect 78 IUCR crimes to occur in the patrol beats based on the trend established during the previous 6 years. 2012 is currently trending below the average.

Since January 2006, 2,700 calls for service have been responded to in the neighborhood; 210 of them IUCR crimes. The calls for service to IUCR crime ratio in the area is roughly 7.7%.

We presented a training session to the group, featuring the video “Shots Fired! When Lightning Strikes.” This dynamic video is designed to teach members of the public realistic strategies for dealing with an active shooter situation. Visit for a 2 minute sample of the DVD.
