Gurnee Fire Chief Fred Friedl Re-Designated as "Chief Fire Officer"

GURNEE, IL - Gurnee Fire Chief Fred N. Friedl was recently notified that his current designation of "Chief Fire Officer" (CFO) has been re-awarded by the Center for Public Safety Excellence.  This prestigious designation, achieved through the completion of an application process and peer review, recognizes measured excellence and an on-going commitment to professional development.  Friedl originally received the designation in 2004 and has been re-designated twice.

"It is an honor to earn such a designation and to be honored by the Commission on Professional Credentialing at the Center for Public Safety Excellence.  This achievement could not have been acquired without the support of our Mayor and Village Board, our Village Administrator and my family," Friedl said regarding the re-designation.

The CFO program requires each applicant to demonstrate their achievements in seven core categories including professional experience, education, professional development, professional contributions, association membership, community involvement and technical competency.  A Board of Review consisting of members of the fire and emergency services profession, academia and municipal agencies review each application and recommends successful candidates for designation to the Commission.  CFOs must submit demonstrated professional development and achievements to the Commission every four year in order to be re-designated.  Currently, there are roughly 850 designated CFOs in the United States with 48 in Illinois.
