Gurnee Police Conduct Special Traffic Enforcement Period

Gurnee, IL – The Gurnee Police Department conducted enhanced impaired driver and safety restraint enforcement activities village-wide from June 28th through July 7th. The campaign coincided with the 4th of July holiday.

This was the seventh and eighth of 13 scheduled campaigns scheduled to be conducted during the 2012-2013 Strategic Traffic Enforcement Plan (STEP) grant year. Funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, these enforcement actions were conducted in order to remove drunk and drugged drivers from the roadways and increase safety restraint compliance.

The results of these STEP Grant enforcement operations are as follows:

Total number of extra hours worked: 58

Number of officers involved: 20

Number of special details conducted: 14

Number of drug/alcohol-related arrests: 4

Number of safety restraint citations: 47

Number of vehicles stopped: 55

Total number of citations written: 79

Total number of patrol miles driven: 283
