GURNEE, IL –The Gurnee Fire Department Awards Task Force recently convened to review the nomination for the Gurnee Fire Employee of the Year for the Exchange Club of Gurnee. The Awards Task Force is pleased to announce that Firemedic Frank Grgas has been selected as the 2012 Gurnee Fire Employee of the Year. Grgas began his career as a paid on-call firefighter in 1996 and was appointed to a full-time Civil Service position in 2002.
Grgas holds numerous State of Illinois Fire Marshal certifications including Fire Apparatus Engineer and Illinois Department of Public Health Paramedic certification. Currently, Grgas assists the Apparatus Maintenance program by providing preventative maintenance, coordination of maintenance supply purchasing and development of specifications for Fire, Emergency Medical, Rescue and staff vehicles. Grgas has also served on many of the Department’s committees and holds numerous Emergency Vehicle Technician certifications for ambulance and fire apparatus.
Gurnee Fire Chief Fred N. Friedl said regarding the award, “It is not an easy task to select just one individual for this award since our organization has so many individuals that put forth that extra effort each and every day! After a lengthy discussion and deliberation, Frank was selected as the 2012 award recipient.”
He continued, “Frank is a true professional, dedicated to the people we serve and protect. Frank provides our citizens and visitors with a level of care that is the best. Frank’s performance in every way exemplifies the qualities of the fire and emergency medical service that our Village and Fire Protection District has come to rely upon. The Department is very proud of Frank and congratulates him on receiving this great award.”
Criteria used by the Awards Task Force to select the award recipient include involvement in community affairs on and off duty, customer service, public relations, safety habits, organizational skills, productivity, initiative, attention to detail and management ability as well as personal qualities including enthusiasm, courtesy, dedication, self-sacrifice and integrity.
The award presentation will be during the Exchange Club of Gurnee 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony on Sunday, September 8th, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Viking Park. The Ceremony is free for the public and will feature posting of Colors by the Fire & Police Honor Guard; guest speakers include Mayor Kristina M. Kovarik and Navy Captain William Bulis; the United States Navy Great Lakes 50 State Flag Unit; Pipes and Drums of the Emerald Society; Gurnee Grade School Choir and additional presentations of the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year and Police Civilian Employee of the Year Awards.
