Operations Divisions

Patrol

The Patrol Division works to assure a safe community through both directed and routine patrol while addressing community problems. Perhaps, the most visible division of the Police Department, the Patrol Division often provides the first response to emergency and non-emergency incidents. Additionally, the Patrol Division includes a variety of specialized units and advanced methods to deliver services to Village residents.

(41 Patrol Officers, 4 Sergeants, 5 Commanders, 8 Detectives, 4 Shifts)

Field Officer Training Program

The Field Training and Evaluation Program is an intense 14 week program where the officer is assigned to the Patrol Division under the direction of a Field Training Officer and a Field Training Sergeant. The process is based on a nationally accepted program designed to assist new officers in making the transition from an academy environment to real life policing. Field Training Officers have been selected for their ability to teach their acquired knowledge. The goal for the Field Training and Evaluation Process is to prepare the officer to perform the duties and responsibilities of a uniformed patrol officer with confidence and ability.

Squads and Equipment: all marked patrol units are equipped with Mobile Data terminals/computers, 800 and VHF two-way radios, speed measuring devices, and a specialized traffic unit is equipped with an in-car video system.

Included in the 20 marked police vehicles is a specially equipped vehicle which carries evidence processing equipment and cameras and a K-9 unit.

The department also has a Visual speed display unit which aids in educating the motoring public.

Along with the marked units, the department has three community service officer vehicles, one D.A.R.E. vehicle, and detective vehicles.

Bicycle Patrol

The Bicycle Patrol Unit is able to field officers trained and equipped for bicycle patrol on specialized bikes with Police markings and equipment. The officers are deployed throughout the summer to address areas suited to bicycle patrol. Bicycle patrols provide greater face-to-face interaction with the community. They are also advantageous when compared to car patrol or foot patrol. Bicycle patrols are faster than foot patrols, less obtrusive than squad cars, and can go places vehicles cannot.
