Dear Visitor:
The Gurnee Police Department has adopted the philosophy of "Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving," known as C.O.P.P.S.
The foundation of "Community Policing" lies in Providing Quality Service to the community. This foundation is reliant upon developing a partnership within the community.
The Village of Gurnee Police Department has an authorized strength of 61 sworn members and 35 civilians and is divided into an operations division and support services division that report directly to a Deputy Chief of Police.
We are proud of our state of the art communications center which features enhanced 911, as well as a well trained group of telecommunicators who are all certified in Emergency Medical Dispatch.
Our well-trained officers also staff a Police Department substation within the Gurnee Mills Shopping Mall. Those officers also provide Crime Prevention Training to the retailers in our community. Police services are also provided to the Gurnee Park District and to the Six Flags Great America Theme Park, which attracts about three million visitors to our community each year.
We offer many programs in our quest to Provide Quality Service while developing open communications with our residents. Some of our programs are Neighborhood Watch, Crime Prevention, Drug Abuse Resistance Education, High School Liaison, Teen Court, and S.T.E.P. (Strategic Traffic Education Enforcement Program), which allows citizens to check out radar units in a cooperative effort in identifying speeders.
We participate in resource sharing by our membership in Metropolitan Enforcement Group, Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System, Major Crimes Task Force of Lake County, and Gang Crimes Task Force of Lake County.
These are only some of the programs we provide to the community. If you would like more information on these or other programs we will be pleased to furnish information to you.
Good communication is essential for Community Policing. Please feel free to contact me anytime with questions or comments you may have. I can be reached at 847-599-7050.
