Community Service Officers
Six civilian Community Service officers provide a variety of services which allows sworn officers more time for patrol and other duties.
The Community Service Officers' primary duties are motorist assist, traffic directives, animal control, desk reports, private property accidents, Vacation Watches, parking enforcement, and Crime Lab runs, along with a variety of administrative duties encountered in the department's operations.
Communications
The Police Department includes 13 Communications Operators within the Support Services Division called the Communications Section. This Section serves as the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) or Communications Center for the Village, and provides emergency and non-emergency radio and telephone communications for both the Police and Fire Departments. Communications also assists in dispatching and communications for the Public Works, Building and Engineering Departments.
In order to provide reliable communications and quality customer service, the Communications Section concentrates on both technology and training to facilitate the efficient operation of the Center. Communications Operators receive a minimum of 26-52 weeks of initial training from Certified Communications Training Officers. Continuing education is provided to employees, in several different forms, throughout the year.
Communications Operators utilize an Enhanced 9-1-1 (E911) system and Computer-Aided-Dispatch (CAD) system to more effectively and expeditiously perform their duties. These systems aid in quickly determining the location of an incident; what type of units to dispatch to the incident; the on-going status of the incident; and the units which responded.
