Citizen Police Academy: Week 12

Citizen Police Academy

Week 12

Graduation

From traffic safety to K-9 duties to use of force to the criminal justice system to drugs, our 12 weeks of fairly intensive education came to a end with our graduation from the Citizens Police Academy. Thirteen of us left with eyes open wider as to what the actual responsibilities of the department are and to how the officers handle those responsibilities.

Deputy Chief Terri Kincaid and Mayor Don Rudny gave parting remarks, and Candace Fujii, the alumni association president, encouraged the graduates to join. Certificates, shirts, and mugs were distributed to the students, and then cake and punch were served. Students and family members mingled with the officers who had given of their time and knowledge throughout the course. Class members bid farewell to one another with promises to meet at the next Alumni Association meeting.

This class is offered at no charge to residents or those who work in Gurnee. If you're interested in attending the next session of Gurnee's Citizen Police Academy, please contact Deputy Chief Terri Kincaid at (847) 244-8640.
