Gurnee Police Conclude Drunk Driving and Safety Restraint Special Enforcement Period

Gurnee, IL – Beginning June 26th and running through July 6th the Gurnee Police Department conducted enhanced impaired driver and safety restraint enforcement activities village-wide. The campaign coincided with the 4th of July holiday.

This was the 9th of 14 scheduled campaigns scheduled to be conducted during the 2013-2014 Strategic Traffic Enforcement Plan (STEP) grant year.

Funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, these enforcement actions were conducted in order to remove drunk and drugged drivers from the roadways and increase safety restraint compliance.

The results of these STEP Grant enforcement operations are as follows:

  • Total number of extra hours worked:  24
  • Number of officers involved:  3
  • Number of special details conducted:  6
  • Number of drug/alcohol-related arrests:  2
  • Number of safety restraint citations:  16
  • Number of vehicles stopped: 18
  • Total number of citations written: 37
  • Total number of patrol miles driven: 298
