Gurnee, IL – Beginning August 15th and running through September 1st, the Gurnee Police Department will be conducting additional occupant protection and impaired driver enforcement patrols.
During the Labor Day holiday the Gurnee Police Department will focus on both impaired and unbuckled drivers. These additional enforcement efforts will concentrate on the late-night hours (9:00 PM through 6:00 AM) as statistics show a disproportionate number of traffic deaths occur late at night and involve an impaired driver and/or unbuckled motorist.
The Gurnee Police Department would like to recommend a few important tips to avoid a tragic crash or an arrest for impaired driving:
Plan ahead. Designate a sober driver before going out and give that person your keys.
If you are impaired, call a taxi, use mass transit or call a sober friend or family member to get you home safely.
Promptly report impaired drivers you see on the roadways to law enforcement.
Wear your seat belt and make sure all passengers are safely buckled up.
In addition to the enforcement patrols, a roadside safety checkpoint is scheduled to take place during the late night hours of August 30th and run through the early morning hours of August 31st.
