Gurnee Police Conclude Drunk Driving and Safety Restraint Special Enforcement Period

Gurnee, ILBeginning May 9th and running through May 26th, 2014 the Gurnee Police Department conducted enhanced impaired driver and safety restraint enforcement activities throughout the village.

This was the seventh and eighth of 14 scheduled campaigns that will be conducted during the 2013-2014 Strategic Traffic Enforcement Plan (STEP) grant year.

Funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, these enforcement actions were conducted in order to remove drunk and drugged drivers from the roadways and enforce safety restraint laws.

These grant-funded deployments, including a roadside safety checkpoint, were in addition to officers conducting their regularly assigned patrol duties. The results of these enforcement operations are as follows:

  • Total number of extra hours worked:  173
  • Number of officers involved:  17
  • Number of special details conducted:  36
  • Number of drug/alcohol-related arrests:  4
  • Number of safety restraint violations:  88
  • Number of child safety seat violations:  10
  • Number of uninsured motorists:  25
  • Number of suspended/revoked licenses:  7
  • Number of fugitives apprehended:  1
  • Number of vehicles stopped:  145
