Gurnee, IL - On June 5, 2014 at 2:45 p.m. Gurnee officers responded to the area of Route 132 and Juniper St. for a reported hit-and-run traffic accident. Over the next several minutes, five additional hit-and-run accidents were reported to have occurred in the area. The offending vehicle, a gold GMC SUV, was located abandoned with the door open in the area of Route 41 under Washington St.
While investigating the offending vehicle, several people approached officers and reported that the driver of the GMC had approached them and tried to pull them from their vehicles . It was learned that the suspect had successfully entered the passenger side of a blue Toyota and that vehicle was last seen southbound from the scene.
A short time later, the Park City police department received a call from the owner of the blue Toyota reporting that she had been ejected from her vehicle by the suspect in the area of Route 41 and Route 120. With the assistance of the North Chicago police department, the blue Toyota was located in the 2100 block of Dickey Ave in North Chicago at the address that registered to the gold GMC. It was then learned that the suspect had been taken to an area hospital by family members.
After being released from the hospital, the suspect, Tiffany R. Thomas, 33, of North Chicago, was arrested and transported back to the Gurnee police department. She was charged with vehicular hijacking, 2 counts of attempted vehicular hijacking, unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle, 2 counts of aggravated battery, felony theft, reckless driving, 6 counts of leaving the scene of an accident, driving with a suspended driver’s license, and no insurance. She was transferred to bond court in Waukegan this morning.
