No. The village has no control over signal timing at any intersection in town. Signal timing is controlled by Lake County DOT and Illinois DOT according to their established scientific procedures. Both entities have monitored and extended signal timings at these and many other traffic signals since their original installations based upon crash data. The yellow light and all red phases of each signal have already been extended from the Federal Highway Administration guidelines based upon the approach speeds at these intersections. They could extend these phases even more, however, with each "safety phase" being extended, it creates less opportunity to move traffic through the intersection creating longer backups. The traffic engineers have to balance the safety of the intersection with its efficiency and its ability to move the required traffic.
