Question of the Week: Who should I contact if I see a property code violation?
1. Gurnee/Wadsworth Relay for Life 2011 to be held Saturday, July 9th and Sunday, July 10; Location has been moved to Warren Township High School Almond Campus
The American Cancer Society will host the Gurnee/Wadsworth Relay for Life event beginning at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, July 9th, and concluding at 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 10th. The Relay will move to the Warren Township High School Almond Campus this year. Registration begins at 4:00 p.m. Hundreds are expected to attend this fundraising effort and the public is invited to join them. There will be activities and entertainment throughout the night. 2. Village Utility Billing Rates and Structure to Change Saturday, October 1st
At the June 20th regular meeting, the Village Board approved Ordinance 2011-50, which modified several sections of the Municipal Code related to water and sewer rates and structure. Beginning on October 1st, the Village will restructure water and sewer billing rates and frequency. Under this system, residents and businesses will pay a base fee for water and sewer service per bill and then pay for any usage instead of the Village charging a minimum usage bill. Base fees will depend on the water meter size of the respective customer. For single family residences, the base fee for water and sewer service will be $10.93 per bill. The modified combined water and sewer rates for all users will be $4.97 per 1,000 gallons, an 8% increase. The average single family household, using roughly 6,000 gallons of water a month, will be $70.57 per bill.
In addition, the Village will move from a quarterly billing cycle to a bimonthly billing cycle. This means residents and businesses will be billed six times a year instead of four. The main advantages of this move will be faster detection of problems for residents and businesses.
These changes were recommended in a recent water rate study completed by Baxter & Woodman Consulting Engineers with the assistance of the Village. The study was conducted to determine the financial health of the water and sewer utilities, the ability of the current rate schedule to successfully maintain the utility systems and the equity of the rates for residents. As these systems age, the need for maintenance or replacement will also grow. These new rates ensure that the system can remain healthy and that events, such as the water main break depicted above, can be better addressed.

3. New Traffic Pattern on Hunt Club, Millburn and Wadsworth Roads Beginning Saturday, July 9th
The Lake County Department of Transportation (LCDOT) will close the intersection of Hunt Club and Millburn roads in Old Mill Creek for 80 days beginning Saturday, July 9th. On the same day, the formerly closed intersection at Hunt Club and Wadsworth Road will be partially reopened to traffic. Both of these multi-stop intersections are being converted to roundabouts to better the flow of traffic.
The map below illustrates the new detour maps. Traffic travelling on Hunt Club Road will be detoured to Dilleys Road while traffic for Millburn Road will be detoured to Stearns School Road and then Route 45. Motorists may still access any point on Millburn Road from Route 45 but cannot travel through the intersection at Hunt Club and Millburn. 4. Village Continues Emerald Ash Borer Treatments
As you may know, the Illinois Department of Agriculture recently confirmed the presence of Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), an invasive beetle that attacks ash trees, in the Village. In response, the Public Works Department is currently conducting insecticide treatments on ash trees in the parkways of subdivisions closest to the initial infestation. Healthy ash trees will be treated while ash trees that have extensive EAB damage, previous wounds or that are too close to utility lines will be removed and replaced on a case by case basis. Residents will be notified via door hangers and Connect CTY calls before any treatments or removals occur in their neighborhood. Treatments have been completed in the Boulders, Spruce Pointe, Steeple Pointe and Pembrooke subdivisions as well as portions of Westgate. Work will continue in Westgate into next week. Providence Village, Providence Oaks and Country Trails are the next subdivisions expected to be treated.
The Village has compiled a webpage of information and resources for residents on the EAB issue on the Village's website, which will be regularly updated as more information becomes available. Residents are strongly encouraged to learn about this threat and explore the available options for any ash trees on their private property.

5. Village Board and Commission Agendas and Noticed to be transitioned to new Listserv; Users must Opt-In to continue receiving these updates after July 18th
Based on initial feedback since the transition of all of the Village's listservs to Mailchimp, the Village will discontinue sending agendas and meeting notices over all listservs. Instead, agendas and meeting notices will be made into a new listserv. In compliance with federal law, external users will be asked to "opt-in" to this new listserv. To do so, simply visit the Village's website and input your information, click "Meeting Notice & Agendas" and submit the new information.

6. "Gurnee's Got It!" Continues through October 15th
The 2011 "Gurnee's Got It!" Campaign launched Wednesday, June 15th and will continue through Saturday, October 15th. Coupons are now available on the website as well as sweepstakes entries.
As with the 2010 campaign, everyone is invited to visit the "Gurnee's Got It!" website , download any and all coupons you would like and redeem them at local businesses! You can also enter this year's sweepstakes for one of three free one-year car leases from Michael Fohrman's Gurnee Dodge Chrysler Jeep or a number of other prizes.
